My next BibRave race: The Crystal City Twilighter 5K! (+discount code)

BibRaveJump
I received my BibRave shirt! I’m excited to wear it at races and rep the team.

Disclaimer: I received a free entry to the Crystal City Twilighter 5K as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

I’ve signed up for my next BibRave race! It’s the Crystal City Twilighter 5K, put on by Pacers Running. The race is happening at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 22, in Arlington, Virginia.

The 8:30 p.m. start time will make this the latest-in-the-day race I’ve ever done! I know I’ve completed at least one evening race, but not this late. But the later start time is part of the appeal: Running in the summer sun is not my thing! Plus, there are going to be glow sticks, which should make for a fun race atmosphere.

According to the race website, participants will also receive beer (21+ — bring your ID!) and refreshments along with photo booth photos and a shirt.

There are even cash prizes for overall first, second and third places for both men and women — this will NOT be me, as last year’s female winner ran a speedy 17:06 — and a gift for age group winners, along with team cash prizes. Although I can sometimes earn an age group award in smaller races, this looks like quite a fast 5K, so I’m not expecting any awards, which is totally fine. There is an Athlinks page where I could put that I’m attending and put in a goal time, so I put 25:00.

The regular price of this race is $45 for adults, BUT you can actually register for $15 less if you do it by Friday, June 30. The race is currently $10 off for the Early Bird rate, and with the BibRave code — 17cctBibRave — you can save an additional $5.

I’m signed up! Here’s a screenshot from the email I received after registering.

Even though I did get a free entry to the race through BibRave, I love that this race benefits the DCXC Project. While I admittedly had not heard of this project before signing up (I live more than 2 hours away on the Eastern Shore of Maryland), I love the mission: “a year long initiative to get kids involved in running and running related sports,” according to the race website. We have a youth running program around here, the Westside Striders, and I think it’s great that people have programs like this to introduce kids to such a positive activity and the running community.
