UPDATE 9/18/17: This race has been canceled. This is the statement from Big Brothers Big Sisters that I received in my email on Friday: “Due to unforseen complications, we have canceled this year’s BIG 5k. Your registration fees will be refunded. Please reach out to us via email at firstname.lastname@example.org to process your refund.
We sincerely thank you for your support and apologize for the inconvenience.”
I’m excited to announce a BIG ambassadorship — I’m a race ambassador for the BIG 5K, a new race benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore.
The race is set for Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Salisbury City Park. If you register by this Friday, Sept. 1, you can get the lowest rate of $25 — plus, with the code “5OFF2017,” you can save an additional $5, bringing the cost down to $20.
From Sept. 2 to Oct. 20, the registration fee will be $30, according to the registration page. You’ll still be able to use the $5 off code to bring the price down to $25.
On race day, the cost is $40, the registration page states.
The race starts at 9 a.m. by the Bandstand at the Salisbury City Park, and registration precedes that from 7:30-8:30 a.m., the registration page states.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore is an organization that pairs youth with caring adults. The pairs spend time together and have fun, leading to success for participants, according to the website. Learn more about the organization here.
After doing so many runs in the summer heat, I’m certainly ready for fall running. This race is at the perfect time of year! Later that day, I’ll be going to the Autumn Wine Festival (which I am promoting for my job with Wicomico County Recreation, Parks & Tourism). Why not run a race in the morning and then enjoy some wine and festivities afterward?
