Join me at the Run to Remember Memorial Day 5K on Saturday!

Here’s me posing for a running photo in my Run to Remember Memorial Day 5K shirt that I got for volunteering.

How awesome is it that I get to promote races as part of my job?

I am the assistant director of marketing and public relations for Wicomico County Recreation, Parks & Tourism, and one of our two 5Ks of the year — the Run to Remember Memorial Day 5K — is coming up on Saturday. I have been working hard to promote the race and get the word out, so hopefully, if you are local, you have already heard about this event.

Last year, I volunteered at the race, and I will be back as a volunteer this year. The race will be held at a new location: WinterPlace Park at 6737 Blue Ribbon Road in Salisbury.

The race begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 27, with race-day registration and packet pickup starting at 8 a.m.

The run/walk benefits the Wicomico War Veterans’ Memorial, which is outside the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center. I think we can all be appreciative of our military members and remember those who died in the line of duty. I know it’s not a job I would be brave enough to do.

Here I am running at WinterPlace Park, again in the Run to Remember shirt!

The fee is $25 for those who register in advance (registration is still open here!) or $30 on race day. Veterans with ID can register for the discounted rate of $20.

The three fastest male and female runners in each of the five age groups will win medals.

The course includes the trails at WinterPlace, and I went and checked them out a little while ago. I’d run there before, but not for a while. It’s fun to run in a different spot, and I’m sure I’ll be back.

Everyone is also invited to the Memorial Day Ceremony, which is happening Monday, May 29, at 10 a.m. It’s free and a way to pay your respects to Wicomico County residents who died serving our country.

Find more information on the race and register here. You can also RSVP to our Facebook event. Hope to see you then!
