End 2014 or start 2015 with a race

Maybe you want to go out with a bang this 2014 and try for a new 5K PR. Or, maybe you’d like one of the first things you do in 2015 to be a race. Either way, I’ve got you covered.

Race into the New Year 5K and Youth 1/4 Mile Mini Run: If you are free or don’t have to work on Dec. 31, you may want to check out the Race into the New Year 5K and Youth 1/4 Mile Mini Run, which is set for noon on Wednesday, Dec. 31.

The race starts and ends outside of the Rehoboth Beach Running Company, which is in the Shops at the Pearl on Rehoboth Avenue in Rehoboth Beach, according to the Seashore Striders event page.

The 5K costs $20 if you register up to a week before race day, according to the website. That would be Wednesday, Dec. 24. Online registration is available here. If you want to sign up at the race, you can do so for $25 between 10:30 a.m. and 11:50 a.m., the website states.

The children’s 1/4-mile run starts at 11:55 a.m. and is free to kids younger than 12, according to the website.

For more information, check out the Seashore Striders Web page.

Hair of the Dog 5K/10K: If you want to make sure you start 2015 with a run, sign up for a race. The Hair of the Dog 5K/10K is set for the morning of Thursday, Jan. 1.

The races start at Parkwood Street and Atlantic Avenue in Bethany Beach, and end at the Bethany Beach Boardwalk and the Bandstand, according to the event Web page. Race maps are available for both the 5K and 10K courses at the site.

The 10K begins at 8:45 a.m. and the 5K begins at 10 a.m., the website states. You can also sign up to run in both events.

Current entry fees are $40 for the 10K, $30 for the 5K and $50 for the 10K and 5K, the website states. Online registration is available here through noon Monday, Dec. 29.

If you’d also like to do the Leo Brady Exercise Like the Eskimos ocean plunge, learn more about that event — which is the same day at noon in Bethany Beach — and see the discounts for registering for the race and plunge here — scroll down on the page.

People can also register at Mango’s in Bethany Beach from noon-4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, when those who have already registered can pick up their packets, the website states. Packet pickup is also available at a tent at the Bandstand from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Jan. 1.

The post-race party, which includes 3rd Wave Brewing Company beer, is also at Mango’s, according to the website.

Visit the Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation event page for more information on both events. The events are also on Facebook.
