Cluck! Cluck! The Wicomico County Fair is getting a fun new addition with the inaugural Chase the Chicken 3K Fun Run/Walk.
And I get to have a fun role at this race — as one of the two “chickens” runners will be aiming to beat! When I’m not a runner — or a “chicken” — I work as the assistant director of marketing and public relations for Wicomico County Recreation, Parks & Tourism, which has partnered with the Wicomico Farm and Home Show on the fair. I always think it’s fun when running and my job connect.
The race will be held at WinterPlace Park on the Saturday of the fair, Aug. 18. It starts at 9 a.m., with check-in and race-day registration starting at 8 a.m. The start is at the pavilion, which will be by the carnival rides.
Participants even have the chance to win a chicken dinner from the Lions Club’s 5-foot fry pan (we won’t tell my chicken character). This prize will go to runners who cross the finish line before the “chicken.”
There will be two of us, so listen for the rules.
Us chickens won’t be the only ones wearing costumes — at least, we hope not. There will be awards for the “Best Farmer” and “Best Egg.”
If you register by July 31, you’ll guarantee that you get a race shirt. In addition, you’ll save if you register in advance versus on race day — $20 now or $25 then. Children ages 5 and under can run for free with the purchase of an adult registration. It should be a great family event.

Hi Vanessa, this is Noah. I met you at the packet pickup for the On the Bacon Trail 7K last week. It was nice meeting you, and I hope that you ran and recovered well at last Friday’s excellent trai race. I enjoy tuning into your blog from time-to-time, and this race sounds like fun. I didn’t realize that they would have human runners as the “chickens” to chase, so that adds an interesting element to the mix. Plus, how often do you find a 3K to run off of the track??? If I lived closer, I would gladly do to this one.
When you have a moment, please send me an e-mail to my e-mail address: noah.wood1983@gmail.com I am e-mailing out a list of upcoming running races on Delmarva to a few other people, and I thought that you might be interested in them, or at least interested in mentioning the on your blog. I don’t have your e-mail addy. Thank you
