‘I Thought They Said RUM’ FREE 5K Fun Run: Fun name, fun race

Here I am outside of TriCycle and Run in St. Michaels on the day of the “I Thought They Said RUM” Free 5K Fun Run

I’d choose a run over rum anyway, so I certainly had fun at the I Thought They Said RUM Free 5K Fun Run.

This race, on July 15, was the latest of the monthly free 5Ks hosted by TriCycle and Run in St. Michaels. I enjoy these races and like to make it up there when I can. I love that TriCycle and Run does these races for the community, and the owners, Jason and Laura Chance, are great!

These races are free, but each month, participants are asked to bring an item to benefit a specific cause. For this race, donations went to Talbot Humane, and I brought a bag of cat food.

These are prediction races, so I didn’t wear a watch. My predicted time was 26:15, but I knew that was unlikely — and more aspirational than a real prediction at this time. It was hot out (it is July), and I came in at 28:06, which I was still happy with.

The course starts out across the street from TriCycle and Run, going through a neighborhood before an out-and-back in each direction on the paved St. Michaels Nature Trail. There’s a water stop at around the halfway point, and I did get some water the first time I passed the water stop.

I came to the race with my friend Veronica, and afterward, we enjoyed breakfast at the Carpenter Street Saloon in St. Michaels. It was a nice morning!
