The Ultimate Coffee Date: A new bike and a couple races

I am looking to do some additional fun things with my blog, and I figured The Ultimate Coffee Date would be a good place to start. Hosted by the bloggers at Got2Run4Me.com and ConfessionsofaMotherRunner.com, this monthly link-up is the first Saturday of each month. So, I know I’m a little late to the date, but I didn’t want to wait till next month.

The Ultimate Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would tell you about the two races I just ran. Running is such a big part of my life that normally there’s some kind of recent running-related news to share. I usually don’t do races quite this close together, but I just did the Run, White & Blue 5K on Thursday and then the Mike Sterling Crab Derby 10K on Saturday.

I was super happy to be able to bike to an actual location on my new bike. When I started yesterday, I couldn’t even get on it! (Michael Piorunski photo)

If we were having coffee, I would tell you about the new bike I just got that I’m learning to ride. My boyfriend Mike has helped me learn how to ride my new road bike, which has a 49-centimeter frame and 26-inch wheels. Being only 5 feet tall, I have had to work on getting on and off. I just started yesterday, and I’m already improving. Yesterday, I rode by our house over and over, practicing, and today we rode to Rise Up Coffee.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I can’t wait for cooler weather. We got a little taste of it yesterday at the Mike Sterling Crab Derby 10K, and I’m excited to finally run in some not-scorching-hot temps.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’m running the Bottle & Cork 10 Miler next weekend. I’m confident that I can finish, but don’t know how I’m going to do time-wise. I haven’t done a 10-mile race since March (*Update: Somehow I forgot I ran a 10-mile race in June*) and my race times haven’t been super fast — the heat’s having an impact here — but it should be a fun time, and Mike is planning to go as well as some friends.

  1. nice!! love your bike! and as for your 10 miler, just see where the race takes you! it’s been a struggle for so many this summer with the heat, but I bet you’ll still do great! I’m running a 10 miler this weekend too!

  2. Ooooh I love the new pink bike! So pretty! It took me a while to get used to my road bike too, but now I love it.

  3. What a pretty bike! I’m 5’1″ and finding a bike I’m comfortable on isn’t easy. I love 10 mile races – I’ve heard good things about the bottle + cork! Have fun and thanks for joining us for coffee!
