I’ve signed up: 26.2 miles at age 26.2 (in Louisiana)

Here I am as a kid, at left, on a family trip to Louisiana with my sister Lisa.

A few years ago, I thought of the idea to run 26.2 miles when I was the age 26.2.

Well, I will be 26 in October, and that day is getting closer. I’m not going to miss out on this nerdy opportunity. While looking for marathons in the past, I realized The Louisiana Marathon was in January.

To calculate when I would turn 26.2, I split 365 days into tenths and then added the 73 days for the .2 of a year to my birthday using this Time and Date website. So, I’ll be 26.2 on Jan. 8, 2017, but I won’t be 26.3 until Feb. 13, 2017.

The Louisiana Marathon is perfect because it’s in Baton Rouge, where I was born. Although I have spent the vast majority of my life in Maryland, I am still excited about this fun connection.

Now that I have a more regular work schedule, I also think I’ll be able to follow more of a training plan. I have always followed a plan for long runs when training for marathons, but I’d like to get a little more serious about this one and try to break my personal record of 4:17:45. I’ve now done five marathons, and my fastest time so far has been my first one.

So, I put 4:15 as my expected finishing time when signing up. Training will start in September!
