Find your perfect local St. Patrick’s Day race

IMG_5883Looking for a St. Patrick’s Day race? I will be heading to the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach — which is only nine days away — but these are races that are happening closer to home. Since they’re spread across two weekends, maybe you can even run in more than one. It would actually be possible to run in four of these!

Saturday, March 12

Shamrock Shuffle 5K: Anyone who races a lot knows that those race entry fees, although normally for a good cause, can add up. But this race, hosted by TriCycle and Run in St. Michaels, is free. Just bring a nonperishable food. The race begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 12, but runners should be there by 8:30 a.m., and you can register starting at 7:30 a.m., according to the TriCycle and Run website/Facebook. Park at St. Michaels Elementary School for the start of the event from TriCycle and Run, the website states.

St. Paddy’s Day 5K/10K: The St. Paddy’s Day 5K/10K is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, March 12, at the General James F. Fretterd Community Center in Denton. This flier really has all the information you’ll need.  We’re in the late registration stage, which is $30 for the 5K and $40 for the 10K, but if you don’t want a shirt, you can subtract $5, according to the flier. You can register at the event beginning at 7:30 a.m., the flier states, and there’s also a Leprechaun Dash for the little ones at 8:30 a.m.

OCMD St. Patty’s Day Boardwalk 5K: I didn’t want to leave this race off because it is a big race, but you can no longer register for this one, according to Facebook.

Sunday, March 13

Lucky Leprechaun 5K: Head over to the Irish Eyes Pub & Restaurant in Milton for the start of the Lucky Leprechaun 5K, which begins at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 13. Online registration has closed, and the registration fee is $40. You can either register from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at Irish Eyes in Milton, or on race day starting at 10 a.m.

Learn more at the Races 2 Run website.

Saturday, March 19

Shamrock Shuffle 5K & 15K: Want an automatic PR? You might be able to do that if you’ve never run a 15K. The Shamrock Shuffle 5K & 15K is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, March 19. Participants will be running on the Junction and Breakwater Trail; start at the entrance behind the Tanger Outlets, according to the website. Early registration, through 6 p.m. March 17, is $22 for the 5K and $35 for the 15K, with those respective costs increasing to $25 and $40 on race day, the website states.

Learn more or register at the Seashore Striders website.

St. Paddy’s Day 5K: Help people with Alzheimer’s and dementia while getting your festive St. Patrick’s Day spirit on at the St. Paddy’s Day 5K, which kicks off at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 19. The start of the race, hosted by MAC, is near the Elks Lodge in Salisbury. According to a flier posted on Facebook, preregistration is $25, and for those registering the day of the race, the cost is $35 for runners and $25 for walkers. The Eastern Shore Running Club, of which I’m secretary, will be timing this event.
