For the first time since I began running, I’ve managed to hit the 1,000-mile mark in a year.
With a 3-miler on Monday, Nov. 10, I was able to bring this year’s total to just more than 1,002 miles. And I’m not done running for 2014: I still have a marathon ahead, on Dec. 6.
I’ve been running for a little more than 10 years. I didn’t track my miles for full years before 2011, but I sincerely doubt I ever made it to that milestone because I didn’t run as much when I was younger.

In 2011, I tracked 625.8 miles. In 2012, I ran 783.1 miles. In 2013, I traveled 903.04 miles on my runs.
I’m very excited to have met my goal of running 1,000 miles this year, especially with a month-and-a-half still left in the year. This was also a goal I’d set for 2013.
Here’s the monthly breakdown of miles I have tracked (I use Excel to track them):
January: 109.43
February: 94.11
March: 83.71
April: 84.27
May: 94.06
June: 79.79
July: 100.23
August: 90.53
September: 88.85
October: 131.7
November (so far): 45.55
I have not officially set my goals for 2015 yet, but I’m thinking I may try for 1,200 miles. That’s an average of 100 miles per month. I will likely have two marathons to train for — the Big Sur International Marathon in April and probably a fall marathon, too.
So, maybe it won’t be so hard to up my average monthly mileage.
What a terrific goal! I have been running for about 5 years. This year I might log 800 miles but now I’m thinking for 2015 one of my goals is 1000! Thanks for the inspiration!
