I’m writing this a little later than I planned, but I still wanted to put my 2026 running goals out there on the blog. I did share this year’s running goals in the Delmarva She Runs This Town group in December, so I’ll go with what I shared there.
1. Finish the Algonquin 50K in under 8:00. Part of the reason I wanted to put my goals out before last Saturday is because that was the day of the Algonquin 50K. So, this goal opportunity has already passed, and while I did not finish under 8:00, I did complete the race in 8:12, with an unofficial finish. If you were outside last Saturday in the Mid-Atlantic (at least here on Delmarva), you know just how cold it was. More to come on that in the next post!
2. Run sub-5:29:15 for a marathon. I was unhappy with my time at the Space Coast Marathon in November (it was my slowest to-date and I didn’t feel great) and I didn’t get the best out of myself in the hot weather. So, the next day, I signed up for the Tobacco Road Marathon in Cary, N.C. It’s March 15 — stay tuned! My last two marathon-plus races have now been on the extreme ends — toasty and frigid. Maybe I can get some in-between weather for this one? (Knock on wood.)
3. Run 10K under 1:00. This is another holdover goal from 2025. I think this is possible for this year, and I’ve done it several times, most recently in 2019 — I just may need to find the right weather and course.
4. Go to the gym at least 52 times. This is yet another holdover from 2025. I went 29 times in 2025, which is really not bad for me. This year was looking to potentially be another failure for this goal until I went three days in a row to use the treadmill. I’m resting this week, but I will have to get back on track with this one.
Follow along as I work toward these goals and on my speed during the year!
