‘Take your time’: A hot day for the Ocean City Running Festival Half Marathon

I went into the Ocean City Running Festival Half Marathon with a clearly-stated goal. I decided not to run a fall marathon this year, and instead to try to run a fast half marathon. Of course, “fast” is relative, but recently, I have been trying to run my fastest times since 2019.

My goal was sub-2:20, about a 10:41 pace. As the race neared and the weather forecast for the race, which had a 9:15 a.m. start, looked like it would be in the 70s, I was certainly worried, but I still tried to not give up before the race began. … More ‘Take your time’: A hot day for the Ocean City Running Festival Half Marathon

Mike Sterling 10K: Cooler weather helped me to my fastest 10K since 2019

My fastest race “since 2019” has been a trend lately — clearly, I had a good year that year (and then we all know what happened in 2020). After running my fastest 5K since 2019 this July, I was happy to add to that by running my fastest 10K since 2019 at the Mike Sterling 10K in Crisfield. … More Mike Sterling 10K: Cooler weather helped me to my fastest 10K since 2019

Too Hot To Trot: Fun, hilly and not overly hot (this year, at least!)

I’m a big fan of small, low-frills races, and after seeing that the Baltimore Road Runners Club was hosting a four-ish mile race, Too Hot to Trot, on a weekend when I was visiting my family in the area, I decided to run it.

The race was held in and around Patterson Park in Baltimore on Sunday, Aug. 6, and it was just $15 for members (I joined last year prior to another BRRC race that I planned to run). … More Too Hot To Trot: Fun, hilly and not overly hot (this year, at least!)

Great Wyoming Buffalo Stampede: Hot and humid, but still a fun small-town race

You know it’s going to be a tough one when the person making pre-race announcements is talking about how muggy it is out.

There aren’t many summer 10Ks around here — and maybe there’s a reason for that — but after running my fastest 5K in nearly four years at the Firecracker 5K in Rehoboth Beach, I was looking to test my speed at a 10K. … More Great Wyoming Buffalo Stampede: Hot and humid, but still a fun small-town race

I struggled through the hot Providence Marathon, but enjoyed exploring a new state

For several years, the only East Coast state I hadn’t visited was Rhode Island. So, I found a reason to go — the Providence Marathon. After my trip this month, I’ve now been to every East Coast state, and I ran my 16th marathon in my 12th state. The Providence Marathon is held in Rhode Island’s capital of Providence, with the course taking runners into East Providence and Barrington before heading back. … More I struggled through the hot Providence Marathon, but enjoyed exploring a new state

My 14th time pacing was a success in Coastal Delaware

I headed up to Rehoboth Beach early the morning of Sunday, April 16, to pace my fourth 2:45 half marathon in a row with Beast Pacing. I’m picky about which races I will pace, because I’m only comfortable pacing flat, local half marathons, but despite warmer-than-I’d-hoped-for temperatures, the Coastal Delaware Half Marathon was a success … More My 14th time pacing was a success in Coastal Delaware
