I received the Eagle Creek Cargo Hauler Duffel through BibRave at a great time, because I got to bring it to two races.

It’s an awesome bag to have for traveling, and I particularly love the huge side pockets — perfect for a pair of running shoes. On my way home from Richmond, I used one of the two pockets for sweaty clothes. I thought that was a great way to separate the most stinky stuff from the plenty of unworn clothes I brought along because of the weather forecast.

I also really like that the bag can be worn as a backpack, with sturdy straps. If you don’t want to carry it as a backpack, there are smaller handles you can use.

If you do want to wear it as a backpack, the example on the website is someone who is 5’10”. I am about 5’0″, but it still worked for me — it just went a little lower than it would on a tall person.

I think it’s helpful for storage that it is so compact when it’s not being used. The whole bag folds into one of the pockets!

I’ve never had a bag that folded into itself like this. When it’s compact, the bag is a little bigger than a shoebox, but it holds so much when it’s all spread out. When I first got it, I used my and my boyfriend’s cat for a size comparison.

The size I received is medium/60 liters. It’s hard for me to compare bags in liters, but it definitely seems like a good size to me. I didn’t take it on any long trips, but I packed many pieces of clothing for the Richmond Marathon because I was unsure about the weather, and it seems like it can hold a lot. That was a two-night trip.

 

I also took the bag to the Across the Bay 10K the weekend before, which was a one-night trip.

I also used the bag soon after receiving it to bring snacks for our Eastern Shore Running Club group of volunteers at IRONMAN Maryland. It was a little big for what I needed, but I enjoyed getting the chance to try it out right away. On that day, I didn’t wear it as a backpack because I had food in there. I also didn’t think about that when I loaded the bag, so I had to carry it by the backpack straps, which wasn’t ideal. However, I won’t normally be using it to transport food.

I am planning to bring this bag with me when I stay overnight at the Rehoboth Seashore Half Marathon in a couple weeks, and even if I’m not doing a race, I still enjoy running on my trips, so I’m sure this bag and its side pockets will get a good amount of use.

 

This bag only weighs in at a pound and 12 ounces, which is great — when you’re already carrying a bunch of stuff, who wants the bag to add to the weight?

I’ll let Eagle Creek explain the material the bag is made out of. It’s “Made with an extra-durable, water-repellent coated Bi-Tech™ Armor Lite fabric: a fusion of technology that merges max abrasion-resistance with ultra-light carry,” according to the Eagle Creek product website. I did not bring it in the rain, but although it does say it’s water-repellent, that doesn’t mean it is waterproof.
