#RWRunStreak: What it was like to run for 37 days in a row

Im-A-Streaker
I bought the “I’m a Streaker” shirt from the Runner’s World website. On the back is the streak hashtag, #RWRunStreak.

It’s amazing what a run streak can do for consistency. I’ve already taken off five days from running so far during this hot July, but from Memorial Day to the Fourth of July, I ran a mile or more each day as part of the Runner’s World Run Streak.

This was a total of 37 days, and I also ran the day before Memorial Day, which made my technical streak 38 days. I tweeted each day of the official Runner’s World Run Streak.

Check out my tweets, with plenty of photos, from throughout the streak here. I posted about each run with mileage amounts and streak totals.

I was able to get in more miles than last year’s Memorial-Day-to-Fourth-of-July streak, but despite a surge with more 5-mile runs than usual, I still didn’t get to 100 miles for the month of June, even though I ran every day. As you can see below, I did have a decent amount of runs that were a mile or so. Run-walk interval runs are also included in my totals/the streak.

I ended the streak after my run July 4, but it was fun and I’m glad I took part in it. There was a supportive check-in on the Delmarva Moms Run This Town Facebook page, and I was able to continue on with the streak even when I felt a little sick (I believe from the heat). I feel like I have started adjusting to the hot temperatures, and for the most part, it’s not as bad as it was before. However, I am glad the past two days were not part of the streak, because Thursday and Friday of this week were hot and humid!

A streak like this does bring about a lot of laundry, but it wasn’t too hard to get myself to run at least a mile a day. Even though my runs were at different times, I knew I needed to fit in at least a mile, so it became a part of my routine. There were times when my legs were tired, but I’m glad there are no speed requirements during the streak.

There was one day I ran after a book club and got my run in at about 10:30 p.m. But I made it!
