I’ll be heading up to Washington, D.C., shortly after writing this blog post to take part in the United Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll Washington, D.C. half marathon. The race expo was open yesterday and is also open today, March 10, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Whether or not you’re running the race, you can come to the D.C. Armory and check out the vendors at no cost (other than whatever you buy! 😉 ).

I will be taking the Metro in from New Carrollton to get to the expo — it works out well that the closest Metro stop to me (about two hours away as I do live on the Eastern Shore) is on the same color line — orange — as the Stadium-Armory stop.

As I mentioned in my earlier blog post, I’m excited to run this race and experience all the live music and the streets of Washington, D.C. I put down 2:10 as my estimated time, but we’ll see what I end up doing. I’m leaning toward taking a few pictures on the course if I feel like it. I do want to make sure I get under 2 hours and 30 minutes, since that’s the time that I’m pacing at the OCMD Island to Island Half Marathon at the end of April.

As a participant, I did get an email that was titled “Important Update: Be Ready for a COLD Race Day,” which made a note of the “exceptionally cold” forecast. So, I’ll be packing lots of layers.

I have been seeing some interesting information about the race on social media and email. Here are a few things I’ve seen:

• Run Rock ‘n’ Roll emailed out some great rates for next year’s United Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll Washington D.C. on March 17, 2018, which can only be accessed at the expo. Since the spots are limited, I’m not sure if there are even spots left, but the rates are $59 for the marathon, $50 for the half marathon and $30 for the 5K. And on top of that, you may even be able to snag a free T-shirt.
• There’s going to be a PR bell, according to Run Rock ‘n’ Roll’s Twitter. Whenever I’ve earned a PR, there has been no bell (or at least I didn’t know about it), so I just think that’s a fun addition. I know I won’t be able to run a PR given my recent times, but I like that it’s there.
• Run Rock ‘n’ Roll also posted about the wear blue: run to remember display honoring the military at Mile 6.
• I’ve seen some people post photos with a Brooks Running backdrop from the expo. I love Brooks, so I’d love to get my photo taken there!
