When you train for a marathon, a 10-mile run is nothing. When you haven’t run 10 miles in more than a month, a 10-mile run is certainly something.
Although I was tired by the end of my first double-digit run since the Rehoboth Beach Seashore Marathon on Dec. 6, I’m really glad I got a long run in.
I ran on the Westside of Wicomico County, Maryland, with my friend Veronica, and I had fun running on routes I don’t normally — or for some, hadn’t ever — run on. It’s a very rural, flat area, for anyone who hasn’t been out there.
I enjoyed the run and Veronica and I talked throughout it, although it certainly felt like more of a feat than it had when I was marathon training.
I will need to start planning longer runs as I train for the Big Sur International Marathon soon — it’s only 14 weeks away. Or, 97 days, 15 hours, 18 minutes and 47 seconds, according to the marathon website.
If you don’t mind me asking where did you park? I’d like a change of scenery but wouldn’t know where to park without fear of getting towed!

I actually parked at my friend’s house, which unfortunately is probably not very helpful to you. As I am thinking about it, there really didn’t seem to be places to park on the side of the road. The closest public free parking would probably be at the Cedar Hill Marina in Bivalve. Or, if you wanted to go further down Nanticoke Road, the Cove or Roaring Point. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful!

Thanks for responding! I’ll have to try the Cove sometime. My goal this year is 1000 miles inspired by your goal last year. Last year I ran just over 900 miles. These bitter cold days getting dark at 5 make it tough. Thanks again!
